Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and just wished I had known about it when I had to go through the stress and trauma of the ESA assessments. I am now in the support group although I have been informed by Jobcentre that I will be contacted again in 2014 to see if there has been any improvement! I find such comments so hurtful and am so tired and worn out, physically and mentally, trying to justify myself to people who have no understanding of chronic illness and rheumatoid. I live on my own and receive high rate mobility allowance and low rate carers. I have just heard on Newsnight tonight that there are now going to be reforms to the DLA. Has anyone got any information on this? Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hiya Linda and welcome to the Forum .

All of the changes including the DLA changes to Personal Independence Payments are going through the Lords at the moment , and various amendments have been made there already . The Commons might overturn these amendments but time will tell.

A good place to start for background is the Disability Alliance site here and follow the links for welfare reform and fact sheet for personal independence payments.
Also look at Universal Credit

Worrying times , especially as there is also a huge threat to Legal aid help for Social Welfare Law (employment, Benefits , Housing ,etc) see here.

There is no doubt that all this reform is nothing more than a huge money saving exercise , and a moving of the line to eligibility and entitlement to benefits that pay more .There is also no doubt that once PIP and Universal Credit are fully implemented that no Government will be able to reverse this since the changes are so drastic.
